Commercial and industrial buildings are known to using RCC (reinforced cement concrete) on their roofs and walls simply because it provides strength and protection against extreme weathering. RCC roofing has gathered much popularity and its popularity is such that many home owners have resorted to investing in RCC roofing due to its numerous benefits.

Although RCC roofs are strong and durable but like everything time also catches up with them. After a few years even RCC roofs start to show vulnerability and the first signs of damage to the roof is water seeping through it. No matter how strong and durable they are not waterproof, after all it is concrete. In order to prevent unwanted water intrusion the best solution is to provide your RCC roof is waterproofing. Waterproofing chemicals and materials are designed to withstand any type of water related problems for buildings. The same is the case for RCC roofs as professional waterproofing will increase your roof’s endurance and prevent water seeping through the concrete.

Why is waterproofing important?

Before we get into the process of waterproofing you roof you must understand why it is important. RCC is usually used for industrial and commercial buildings where working conditions are quite sensitive and any sort of water intrusion or moisture can damage the products and machinery. Even in houses where people use RCC for their roofs should know that they are not impregnable and any moisture or water seeping inside can damage the look of the house and the furniture inside.

Waterproofing provides complete water resistance where every crack on the walls and roofs are patched up and then a coat of waterproofing materials and chemicals is applied to make sure no moisture can penetrate even in the harshest of rainfalls.

Types RCC waterproofing

Cementitious waterproofing

A high grade acrylic polymer is mixed with cement to provide protection against water intrusion. This is one of the most easily available waterproofing which you can afford from any hardware shop nearby. This process is carried out during the construction of the building and can be used on RCC concrete to make sure no water can penetrate.

Polyurethane liquid membrane

This is an expensive type of roof waterproofing which is applied on flat roof which is exposed to weathering making it great for RCC. It provides great protection against any sort of water intrusion, it is applied through spraying on the exposed area. You have to be careful before its application as the area it must be applied on must not be moist otherwise it will ruin the membrane.

Liquid waterproofing membrane

This one is a more flexible method where a water tight membrane is placed on the surface to make it waterproof. Liquid membranes come in liquid form which are later sprayed on to the roof where it forms a seamless joint-free membrane after curing. This is a very quick process and great for RCC roofs

Bituminous waterproofing membrane

This is made from asphalt, polymers and fillers, all are self-adhesive compounds making bituminous coating membrane self-adhesive. Works great for flat and sloped roofs and can withstand any harsh weather condition.
